What is the Nestlé Very Best In Youth program?

Nestlé USA has been a proud sponsor of the biennial Nestlé Very Best In Youth program for more than 15 years. Created to spotlight the best in America’s youth, the program identifies teens whose efforts are making a profound difference in the lives of others.

Eligibility

Who is eligible for the Nestlé Very Best In Youth Award?
  • Students between 14 to 18 years of age, who demonstrate good citizenship and a strong academic record.
  • Students who are legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia.
  • Students who have parental or legal guardian permission to apply.
Who is not eligible for the Nestlé Very Best In Youth Award?

Children of Nestlé USA’s employees, or any of their affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising or promotion agencies.

Are U.S. residents living on a U.S. military base overseas eligible?

Yes, as long as a parent or guardian is a legal voting resident of one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C.

Are U.S. residents of Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Virgin Islands, or other U.S. territories eligible?

Yes, as long as a parent or guardian is a legal voting resident of one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C.

When is the deadline to apply?
  • The deadline for the 2013 Nestlé Very Best In Youth competition is November 8, 2012.
  • Entry forms will be available online in spring 2012.
May I have an extension on the deadline?

Entry forms received after the deadline will not be considered.

Prizes

What do I win?
  • A trip for you and your parent or legal guardian to Los Angeles, California for the Nestlé Very Best In Youth awards weekend. Trip will include round trip coach air travel, hotel accommodations for three nights (one room, double occupancy);
  • $1,000 to donate to your favorite charity; and
  • Have your story profiled in the Nestlé Very Best In Youth publication.
Do I receive anything if I apply but am not selected as a Nestlé Very Best In Youth award winner?
  • Yes, you will receive a Certificate of Acknowledgment from Nestlé.
  • You also become a member of the Nestlé Very Best In Youth Foundation. Foundation members can apply for grants up to $1,000 for non-profit organizations they are involved in.
How many winners are named?

Nestlé will announce the number of students to be named the 2013 Nestlé Very Best In Youth winners.

When will the winners be announced?

The 2013 winners will be announced by February 15, 2013 and will be listed on the Nestlé Very Best In Youth website.

Judging

What are the judging criteria?
  • Judges will select outstanding students who will be profiled in a book, which will be published in the summer of 2013 (If winner is unable to attend awards ceremony, prizes will be forfeited and another winner may be selected.)
  • Judges will select the winners from all eligible entries received by the due date.
  • The nominees will be judged based on the information provided on the entry form (i.e. strong academic record, special contribution to school, church or community, demonstrate good citizenship or a personal obstacle the youth has overcome).
  • In the event of a tie the judges will select the winner.
  • Decisions of the judges will be final.
  • No cash substitutions for prizes will be permitted and prizes are non-transferable.
What are the judges looking for?
  • Youth must demonstrate good citizenship and a strong academic record (GPA, honors, etc.) Copies of the student’s current report card or transcript must accompany the entry form. (Entry forms available online)
  • Youth may have a special contribution to school, church, or community. Youth may have taken the lead role in planning and implementing activities to aid individuals or groups.
  • Youth may be an avid reader who regularly spends time with books and shares the pleasure of reading with others.
  • Youth may have overcome a personal, physical, economic or social obstacle.
